We like to see ourselves as an outdoor and active person and it was a matter of time, when we will be connecting our travels and trips with a new toy.
We had been thinking to buy a kayak for too long and we finally bought one this week from Roto company, which has its headquarters in Slovenia.
We could not wait for weekend to come and luckily the weather was on our site – Sunday was sunny and warm, what made perfect conditions to test the kayak.
We have not been in this kind of kayak yet, so we did not want to go too far from home. At the end we decided to put our kayak on the Ljubljanica River, which flows through Slovenian capital city Ljubljana.
Everything was perfect and we probably made around 6 -7 kilometers, what was enough for the first time. We are sure we will be all soar tomorrow, but who cares, it was perfect!
Ljubljanica river is great to do a trip with kayak or even as stand up paddling. We did not go all the way to the capital Ljubljana, but we will definitely do it on another occasion. The views from Ljubljanica river to Ljubljana old town are amazing!
If you ever visit Ljubljana and like to see the city and its surrounding from another perspective, make sure you do a kayak or a SUP trip. You will most definitely not be sorry.
Ljubljanica River has a nice flora and fauna and offers some great views over the mountains and hills. There are lots of different birds’ species, including herons. If you are careful enough, you can even spot nutria/coypu and deer, coming to the river for water drinking.
Ljubljanica River with kayak was a fantastic start into our kayaking and we cannot wait for another beautiful day, as we already have some other very interesting places in mind.

Awesome that you bought a kayak too! We have yet to test our one out. We were in Slovenia last year, did a 3 week Europe road trip from UK to Croatia and back (with 6 countries in between) we loved our time in Lake bled. Didn’t get enough time in Slovenia. Would love to be back 🙂 have fun kayaking!
Thank you Samiya. Glad to hear you liked Slovenia! Lake Bled is really special - I hope you tried the famous cream cake “kremšnita” there? Slovenia is a very small country, but offer so much diversity… I think people always plan too little time for visiting it and they are always back 😉
