We are always excited when traveling to a new country and San Marino Republic was exactly like it. In fact, traveling to San Marino was our 45th visited country.
We reached San Marino as a weekend trip from Slovenia and spent one day there. The whole weekend getaway was done together with visiting Rimini, Cesenatico and Ravenna, what made a great roadtrip.
San Marino is said to be the world’s oldest republic and it is also extremely small. It measures only 61 square kilometers, but nevertheless San Marino offers what all the big players do. Traveling to San Marino is perfect for everyone who’s into good food, shopping, history and photography.
Lots of people are traveling to San Marino because of shopping, as this is a duty-free zone with lots of trendy shops. San Marino is mostly known for its good leather items.
San Marino was built on a steep hill, having great strategic position. The country has a wall around it and three defense towers, from which you can enjoy stunning views. If the sky is clear, you can see all the way to Croatia. When traveling to San Marino, make sure to climb on top of the two opened towers (4,50€/pp for both towers).
If you collect stamps in your passport, visit tourist information center to get one. It will cost you 5€ and it will make a good memory from traveling to San Marino.
When traveling to San Marino, you can spend the night in San Marino and get the feel of this tiny country in all its glory or you can book a hotel in the surroundings. We staid the night near Rimini – Hotel Baldanini was great and set up directly at the sandy beach. Hotel Baldinini is ideal for summer holidays or romantic getaway. It also has good location if you plan to visit Rimini. (Hotel Baldanini coordinates: 44.06.27.4 / 012.23.33.2)
Thank you for reminding me that there is somewhere else I need to visit in Italy. I love the idea of out-of-the-way places.
I hope to read more of you travel posts and information.
Thank you,
Harlan
