I have literally been traveling all my life… First travels were made with my parents at the age of three and since then I’ve tried all kind of travel styles. I could say traveling is my way of life and one of my biggest passions.
Over the years of my so called travel life, I have come across with different types of travel style. I almost could say I have tried every travel style you can imagine. Shoestring, budget, nomads, backpackers, over-landing… Just name it and I have done it! OK, I admit, I am a bit exaggerating with all the travel styles I have tried as there is one, I have rarely done – luxury travel style.
So far real luxury travel style has not yet been on my agenda
Even thought that was never my cup of tea, maybe the biggest issue for doing little luxury travel style is lack of money. My life and travel style has always been focused on how to get more money, to travel longer. So far I am still in search for this magic potion. I guess if I can honestly admit to myself, I would love to spend (from time to time) some days in a nice hotel and just relax, instead of counting every single cent when being on the road. Sometimes this budget travel style is just a very exhausting one… But if a luxury travel style would be something I would really wished for, I might even afford it sometimes, but I would definitely needed to make a big cut in my length of travelling and that is something I am just not willing to do – at least not yet. Traveling makes me happy and makes me alive! That is why my travel style is more or less a budget one – because of it, I can travel longer and more often.

Many people like to »mark« travelers, but the thing is I am not a type of person, who would put people in a certain box, just because they do something differently than I do… I think all travelers, no mater of their travel style, are special and interesting in their own way. The real traveler and travel style was never about budget or luxury and never about length of the travel… If you travel because traveling makes you happy, there is no right or wrong travel style. The only difference between the good or the bad and the right or the wrong travel style depends only on you!
The right travel style is when we respect the foreign country, its tradition, culture and people
If you, as a traveler, respect a foreign country, culture, tradition and its people, you cannot go wrong! Travel smart, SEE the world as it is, learn from it and have fun while doing it! That my fellow travelers, is the only real and the right travel style!
Well said! As long as travelling makes you happy, it doesn’t matter how you go about it! I’m sure if everyone could afford ‘luxury travel’ all the time, they’d do it. But for most, budget or shoestring travel is the only option. But who cares! 🙂
Hi Amy, cannot agree more – budget or shoestring is still much better than no travelling at all! And between us – would not mind doing it in a luxury way from time to time 😉
