TOP Things to do in Tuscany – Tuscany travel map

#1 Florence

Travel to Tuscany would never be perfect without visiting the capital city of this Italian region. Florence is a vibrant and modern city, but with its old city center, you can easily get lost in time! The historical buildings are boosting out of the narrow streets and will undoubtedly impress everyone! Walking around the historical part of the city and climbing up on the Duomo (Cathedral) are two of the best things to do in Tuscany. The world famous artist, Michelangelo, worked in Florence and because of him, Florence and its museums are rich with his works of art! One of the best things to do in Tuscany and Florence is also a walk over the Ponte Vecchio!

#2 Suspension bridge / Ponte Sospeso

Out of the normal touristic paths and north from Florence, the landscape turns into a hilly one. Drive yourself in direction towards Lima. Just before Lima turn left to reach a small village San Marcello Pistoiese. You will find a suspension bridge here. Cross it over, enjoy the beautiful views and smell the fresh of the countryside. If you ask us, this was one of the unexpected best things to do in Tuscany.

#3 The Devils Bridge / Ponte della Madalena

If you like bridges stopping at the Ponte della Madalena will be one of the best things to do in Tuscany. The bridge is not interesting just because of it’s architecture stly, but also because of its legend, which says it was built by the devil against the life of the first one, who will cross it. The locals were clever and they first send the dog to cross it!

#4 Lucca

Visiting the town of Lucca is one of the best things to do in Tuscany. The city was founded by the Etruscans and you cannot go wrong to stop there for at least few hours.  Lucca is famous for its intact Renaissance-era city walls, which is so wide you can walk on or even ride the bike… Don’t miss all the local restaurants, gourmet shops and cafés.

#5 Pisa

While traveling around Tuscany, you should not miss Pisa and its leaning tower – definitely one of the absolute must things to do in Tuscany. After a long renovation, the leaning tower of Pisa is again opened for visitors. Climbing towards the top, you will be able to feel how lean the tower really is. One of the must things to do in Tuscany is also taking at least one “holding the tower” photo. Don’t even forget to see the other beautiful sights on the Field of Miracles as well!

#6 San Gimignano

The symbol of this old stoned city are four towers. The town is under UNESCO protection, so it is also one of the must things to do in Tuscany. The romantic walled medieval hill town is known also for the Knights Templars and amazingly good ice-cream (gelato)! Buy a scoop, two or three and eat it on the central market, looking at the famous towers and enjoy yet another great day on your Tuscany itinerary!

#7 Siena

Another medieval walled town, which was one of my favorite on the Tuscany travel. Walking along old streets behind the wall and enjoying a glass of wine on the main square (Piazza del Campo) is one of the best things to do in Tuscany. It is said that this square is the most beautiful medieval square in Europe. I also recommend visiting the 88 meters high tower, which shows you the magnificent square from above as well. If the sky is clear, you’ll already see some of the famous Tuscany hills from above!

If nothing else, the charming hills are for sure one of absolute best things to do in Tuscany. Passing them will leave you speechless. Their beauty cannot really be described as everything looks like a fairytale! During the spring the hills are in vivid green color, in the summer all the grain fields make them goldish and in autumn everything is chocolate brown… No matter what time of the year you visit Tuscany, this landscape is never a disappointment!

The local wine Chianti is made here, so buying a bottle or two, to take home, is one of the things to do in Tuscany. The Chianti region is also inviting because of its beautiful motives, which will put a shine on the photographers!
