Food in Philippines is not just rice, but includes lots of vegetables, fish, meat and unique ingredients too. I mostly liked everything I tried, so in general the food in Philippines is very tasty.

Most common food in the Philippines?

Rice

Oh yes, when you are traveling around the Philippines you will eat a lot of rice. Rice for breakfast, rice for lunch and rice for dinner, so get use to it. Rice is for sure one of the most common food in the Philippines, but don’t worry about it. You don’t need to eat the plain one only. We loved the fried garlic one or the brown rice with veggies in Sagada. We have eaten really good rice on our Banaue – Batad trekking too.

Sea food

The Philippines are made up with numerous islands and that is why you will be able to eat a lot of delicious sea food when traveling around the country. The sea food in the Philippines is tasty, fresh and comes with a good price too. Due to its popularity, we can easily say sea food is also one of the most common foods in the Philippines.

Pork and chicken

When we talk about meat in the Philippines, we cannot go pass chicken and pork. Pork might even be more popular than chicken (only with non-Muslims). Try chicken or pork adobo – traditional Filipino food with soya sauce and served together with, guess what –rice. You can also easily get grilled chicken from street vendors. Adobo is one of the most common foods in the Philippines – most Filipinos eat it weekly.

Eggs

Eggs are almost as popular as rice – you can get them everywhere. Eggs for breakfast, eggs for lunch or eggs for dinner.

Fruit and vegetables

People in the Philippines like to eat a lot of meat, but markets sell lots of fruit and vegetables. Rich filled markets are the best way for vegetarian travelers.

Beer, Coca-Cola or calamansi

The Philippines have good and cheep local beer, if you cannot imagine a day without it. Like in all Asia, Coca-Cola is extremely popular here too, but please do try the freshly squeezed juice out of calamansi –mini lime’s alike fruit. We loved it!

Balot – only for the brave ones

If you are traveling around the Philippines and if you have what it takes, you will probably try balot. I must admit, I could not eat balot. I had it in my hands, but looking at the embryo inside, I just couldn’t do it. Maybe next time, when we will visit the Philippines again.

The Philippines are still one of my favorite travel destinations and even if the food might look monotonously on the first sight, it is not really like that. If you are not too picky, you will enjoy the food in the Philippines without any bigger problems.
