Dutch foods for every budget you should try in Holland
Bitterballen
The easiest way to describe the Bitterballen is saying these are some kind of fried meat balls; crunchy from the outside and soft from the inside. They go extremely well with a glass of cold beer or just as a quick snack between meals. (Portion of 6 pcs: 2,50€)
Broodjeharing
This dish definitely will not be for everyone’s taste, but it is one of the most recognized Dutch dishes. Broodjeharing is a raw haring fish, served with pickles and onions. You can also take it with bread, what might be easier to swallow. (Portion without bread: 1,90€)
Kibbeling
We loved this quick bite, which contains deep fried chunks of fish, served with garlic sauce. (Portion with sauce: 5€)
Stroopwafel
Do you like to drink your coffee with something sweet? If your answer is yes, indulge yourself with a stroopwafel. This large cookie is made out of two thin layers of waffle dough, filled with caramel alike syrup. Best when eaten warm. (One large stroopwafel: 1,50€)
Poffertjes
Another Dutch dish which we needed to try before leaving the Netherlands is their miniature pancakes. Like stroopwafels, they are best when served warm. They will be topped with loads of powder sugar and a piece of butter. (Portion: 2,75€)
