How to reach Thassos Island

The best option is to fly to the Thessaloniki International Airport, where you either rent a car, taxi or take a bus ride to one of the two ferry ports to Thassos Island. You will need 2 hours drive to reach Kavala ferry port or 2,5 hours to reach Keramoti ferry port from Thessaloniki. There’s also a small airport Kavala, which is just 15 minutes far from the Kavala ferry port, but it is trickier to land there lacking flights.

Ferry to Thassos Island

We embarked the ferry at the Keramoti port (40.85713 / 024.70275) and we needed around 20 minutes to reach the island.

Transportation around the Thassos Island

If you ask us, the best option to explore the Island is by a rented car – so if you’ll be landing at the Thessaloniki Island, make sure to rent it until you are back again. Having your own car is the easiest way to drive around Thassos Island. Another god option is renting a scooter.

Accommodation in Thassos Island

Thassos Island is a popular summer destination, so you will find many accommodation for every budget there. You can choose among camping spots, apartments or hotels. We have decided to spend all 5 days in a coastal town Limenaria, where we rented El mare Luxurious Apartments. The apartments were fantastic – recently opened and decorated in a modern style, which we really liked. The family, who made 3 apartments in their own private house, is extremely nice and welcoming. Good English is also spoken. The grocery store was just steps away and also the center of Limenaria was in a walking distance. A small alley runs directly to the beach and its coastal walk, perfect for walking, jogging or strolling with your baby.

Have in mind the best months for summer holidays are July and August and that is also why these two months are the most crowded one.
